New Mom's Gifts
The ad said WE HAVE NEW MOMS GIFTS. Wow, ideas. I need ideas. That is exactly what I need and I need it by Friday. That is when the “Mom and Muffins” group at our church is going to meet. It is always such a fun yet tricky chore trying to figure out what theme we are going to do. Every month on a Friday morning about 13 wonderful, young mothers get together in our old church basement. It is a time when they share about all the drama that goes along with being a mom with little children. I think the part they like the most is that we provide child care. For a couple of hours they can sit around with other women to talk, laugh and enjoy other people who are in the same season of life. Whether they realize it or not they are a support group for each other. They share the good and bad, fun and hard parts of being a mom.
Now our group does have a purpose. We are not just all about having fun; we provide a very important service to the new mothers in our church. We put together a basket that has new mom’s gifts in it. Each lady brings a small gift. You know lotion, bath salts, magazines and maybe even some chocolate. Can’t forget that. It is my job to think of a theme for the new mom’s gift baskets. Some of our moms who we give a basket to are on their second or third child so we have to keep changing the theme of the baskets. We have been doing this in our church for about seven years.
I am not sure who enjoys it the most. The ladies who receive the basket or the ones who put it together. At the end of our time on Friday morning we have muffins and coffee or tea. I love it. Watching the young moms relax and share is a new mom gift each time we meet with one another. So the next time you want to bless a new mom with a gift, creatively come together and bless the mom together. You will find that the old saying that to give is better than to receive is actually true.

The Hungry Caterpillar Diaper Cake
This diaper cake was built around a classic well loved children's book. It's not difficult to see how we used the theme to decorate. An adorable hungry little caterpillar will make this book come to life as the baby grows.
Made with products that mom will appreciate having on hand as well as diapers, this cake makes a fantastic baby gift as well as a baby shower centerpiece.
Just like the hungry caterpillar this gift will grow with baby.
You can find this cake already made at Planet Gifts, or browse their other diaper cakes. We are sure you will find one that is perfect.

Making A Diaper Cake For A Friend
My best friend is having her first baby and I wanted to do something special... So I decided to host a baby shower for her.
Now, I have been to a lot of showers. I have played every silly game you can think of. One time we even passed around disposable diapers and had to guess what was in them. I cannot imagine a group of men getting together and thinking this was a fun way to spend the evening.
But, we are special, we are women and we love to honor and help and so a baby shower is our way of showing our love and support for the new mom and her little one.
Because I am creative and like to try new things, I decide to try and make a diaper cake. No, it is not something you eat, but it is fun and can be a creative way of giving a useful gift.
Diaper cakes are made of about fifty small disposable diapers. They are rolled and layered in tiers to look something like a wedding cake.
They can be ordered on line. Because they include at least fifty diapers, they can be expensive. But remember you are giving a gift that can be very useful and fun at the same time. They are wonderful.
But since I am a someone who enjoys making and trying new ideas, I thought I would tackle this easy to make gift. Well at least it seemed easy in the picture. I found several sites on line that gave very detailed instructions.
It sounded easy even though the instructions did seems detailed and long.
I started by rolling fifty diapers and tying them with pink and blue ribbons. My next step was to stand these little rolls in a small circle and tuck gifts in the center. It sounds simple and easy. But for some reason, I could not get them to stand up and I did not seem to have enough hands to make it work.
After several tries, my cake did come together and turned out to be something I was really proud of. So, if you are hosting a baby shower and want a unique gift idea try making a diaper cake. I promise you won’t be sorry and the new mom and baby with love your creation.
